It all started with
a small “JOM”
Penjaga Gunung began with a simple realisation from Afiq and Nadine.
In Selangor, there were only two licensed Orang Asli mountain guides in 2024, not due to a lack of knowledge, but a lack of access to formal pathways.
For generations, Orang Asli communities have lived with and understood the forest. Yet opportunities to participate in guiding, conservation, and forest-based livelihoods have become increasingly limited.
Penjaga Gunung exists to help open these pathways by supporting Indigenous youth who wish to walk with the forest, with dignity, recognition, and choice.
Our Philosophy
Penjaga Gunung is community-led and grounded in respect for knowledge that already exists within communities.
We do not create knowledge. We support its continuity.
Our role is not extractive, but supportive by enabling Orang Asli youth to engage with forest livelihoods and ensuring the relationship between people and forest continues for future generations.
